PANAJI: The State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT) will be conducting the first Goa Teacher Eligibility Test (GTET) for those interested in teaching from Class I to VIII on November 21. It will a pen and paper offline exam.
As per provisions of the Right to Education (RTE) Act, it is mandatory for teachers being employed to teach from Class I to VIII to have cleared a TET.
But the state government is conducting its first only now, 12 years after the RTE Act came into force.
The SCERT has said that those who want to appear for the test will have to apply online and applications will be accepted up to October 20.
“The GTET will apply to schools of the government of Goa, schools aided by the government of Goa, schools aided by other local bodies and private schools under the administrative control of the government of Goa,” the SCERT notice states.
The GTET will determine the eligibility of candidates for appointment as teachers for Class I to IV and V to VIII, the SCERT has said.
The test for those interested in teaching from Class I to V will be held in the morning session on November 21 from 9.30am to 12pm. And the exam for those who want to teach from Class V to VIII will be held in the afternoon session on the same day from 2pm to 4.30pm.
“All questions in GTET will be multiple choice questions (MCQs), with four alternatives out of which one answer will be most appropriate. Each question will carry one mark and there will be no negative marking for wrong response,” the notification for the test had stated.
