Manchester United suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season on Saturday as they fell 1-0 to Aston Villa at Old Trafford.
Kortney Hause scored a late header for Aston Villa before they conceded a penalty for handling Edinson Cavani's header.
Bruno Fernandes picked up the ball and placed it on the spot, ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, and blasted the ball well over the bar as United were beaten for the third time in four games and for the second consecutive home game in all competitions.
"Bruno has been excellent and Cristiano is probably the one who has scored the most penalties in world football. It is just a missed opportunity to get a point. "You will be making all these assumptions on the reactions of players," said Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
"Bruno is such a good penalty taker and you would back him with your mortgage. What I don’t like is how they [Villa players] crowded the referee and the penalty spot. They got what they wanted."
United's attention will now turn to Villarreal, who they take on at Old Trafford in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Cristiano Ronaldo 'eyes United coaching role' after retirement
United need him on the pitch first but Cristiano Ronaldo is already being linked with a coaching role when he eventually retires.
The Sun say Ronaldo, 36, would love to retire at United later in his career and eventually take up a training ground position.
Sir Alex recommends defender

Find out who here.

The Manchester United fanbase is divided over Ole's future.

Phillips at Old Trafford?
Would you have Kalvin Phillips at Manchester United next season?
The club are interested according to the Daily Star.
United remain 'interested' in Dembele
Take this rumour with a HUGE pinch of salt, however, El Nacional claim that United remain interested in Ousmane Dembele, who has been regularly linked with the club over the years.
The Barcelona winger was one of Europe's most exciting prospects for Borussia Dortmund, but his time in Spain has been plagued with injuries, which have curtailed his progress.
Dembele is a free agent at the end of the season, which could explain the fresh links.
Just remember, this proposed transfer is very, very unlikely.
Ferguson makes Wesley Sneijder transfer claim
Manchester United's legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said the club never came close to signing Wesley Sneijder despite incessant transfer links.
The Dutch playmaker came through the Ajax academy and went on to enjoy an illustrious career, representing his country on 134 occasions, as well as clubs like Real Madrid and Inter Milan.
At Inter, Sneijder was arguably the star man in Jose Mourinho's treble-winning team, as he was at the creative hub of a side that dominated European and Italian football in 2009-10.
During the peak years of his career, Sneijder was often mentioned as a possible target for United over the course of numerous transfer windows. So often was he linked with a potential Old Trafford move, it became a running joke among supporters.
Neville names strongest United line-up with all players fit
Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville doesn't believe the club's best team includes Jadon Sancho or Marcus Rashford when the entire squad is fit.
United bolstered their group with a number of exciting acquisitions in the summer, with Sancho's signing followed by that of Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The arrivals of Sancho and Ronaldo added depth to what is already a packed stable of high-class attacking players at Old Trafford, giving manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a host of options to choose from.
While there have been moments of quality from United throughout the season, as of yet the forward line hasn't consistently clicked, with Sancho struggling to show his best early in his United career.
United are 'waiting' on Pogba contract decision
Fabrizio Romano has given an update on Paul Pogba's contract situation. The Frenchman's current deal at the club expires at the end of the season, which means he could soon leave for free.
"Manchester United are waiting for the final choice of Paul Pogba," Romano told Benchwarmers.
"The new contract has already been offered for months, Paul must make a personal decision and not just an economic one together with his agent Mino Raiola; sign a further long contract with Man United or try a different experience?
"Pogba has been loving the atmosphere created in the club in recent months but has not yet given an answer. The club will insist and hope to be able to extend the agreement soon.
"Of course, optimism is much more on the Bruno Fernandes front. Talks with his agent began in the first week of July and Manchester United know that renewing his contract is essential: Bruno is more than just a leader, on and off the pitch.
"That’s why the club is negotiating a new long-term deal to reward him, knowing that the Portuguese is very happy at Old Trafford."
Rashford teases Manchester United injury return
Marcus Rashford has revealed he is edging nearer to full training with the club following shoulder surgery.
Rashford picked up a shoulder problem early last season, but played through the pain barrier to help the side through a tough season, before heading off to Euro 2020 with England as they made the final.
Following his participation during the summer's tournament, Rashford made the decision to undergo surgery on his shoulder injury to correct it and help him get back to full fitness.
The surgery means that he is yet to feature for United this season but the 24-year-old has now indicates that he is close to a full return.

Listen to "Solskjaer faces job scrutiny after United defeat to Aston Villa | Midfield changes needed for Villarreal" on Spreaker.OPINION: Solskjaer title comment is crucial after Manchester United defeat
We are only six matches into the new Premier League season but already some Manchester United supporters seem to think it is over.
A dire defeat to Aston Villa at the weekend saw Manchester United lose for the first time in the league this season, though had Bruno Fernandes netted an added time penalty kick they would have finished the weekend second in the table.
Manchester United often refers to 'fine margins' when analysing his side's results and amid all the negativity it is crucial to look at the wider picture given no team in the top-flight has a flawless record still in tact.
Amid a perceived crisis United are level on points with early title favourites Chelsea and Man City and only one point behind leaders Liverpool, it therefore seems silly to overreact too much after one defeat.
Gary Neville sends transfer message over Jude Bellingham
Gary Neville has said he would prefer to see the club target Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham over West Ham star Declan Rice.
Sir Alex Ferguson reveals the truth about those Wesley Sneijder rumours
"Well, you mention the boy Sneijder," Ferguson told presenter Sam Homewood.
“That's come up a lot of times but we were never interested in Sneijder. I don't know where that came from but you get a lot of them. Every Sunday, in The People, when I first came, they were throwing names in all the time, you know."
United get Amad injury boost with training update
Amad has been pictured wearing Manchester United training gear as he gets closer to a return from injury.
The Ivorian winger was set to leave United on loan in the summer transfer window but saw a proposed move to Dutch side Feyenoord fall through after he suffered with a thigh muscle injury in training.
United Q&A ahead of Villarreal fixture
Manchester United continue their UEFA Champions League campaign on Wednesday night as they host Villarreal at Old Trafford.
This will be the first time that the Reds have faced the Spanish side since their Europa League final defeat in May, where Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men were beaten on penalties in Gdansk.
There is also plenty to discuss from this weekend's Premier League action, after United suffered their first defeat of the season at home to Aston Villa.
Now is your chance to have your questions answered by the MEN's chief Manchester United reporter, Samuel Luckhurst.

OPINION: Solskjaer must trust his squad
"Arguably more worrying than the results for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have been the performances of particular players in key positions.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka was sent off against Young Boys for a reckless tackle, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw haven't looked themselves since returning from Euro 2020 duty with England, Fred has been awful for the most part in midfield and Jadon Sancho has made a slow start to his United career.
With a huge clash against Villarreal on Wednesday in the Champions League, Solskjaer has some decisions to make and it's time that he showed he is learning from previous mistakes."
Sir Alex 'tells United' to sign Peterborough youngster
Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly told Manchester United to sign Peterborough youngster Ronnie Edwards.
The Express claim Ferguson has told John Murtough to join the host of Premier League clubs tracking the 18-year-old, who has started Posh's last three games for Darren Ferguson's side.
The report goes on to suggest Peterborough have no plans to sell, and hope he could be worth up to £20m in the future - but Ferguson senior apparently hopes his family connection could give United the edge if he is made available to buy.
Man City star Jack Grealish sends message to Villa 'keeper after Fernandes penalty miss
Jack Grealish loved seeing his former side beat United at the weekend,
After the match 'keeper Emiliano Martinez took to social media to enjoy the victory.
Martinez said: “Unreal performance from everyone today. 3 points, clean sheet - job done.”
And Grealish replied: “Emi you funny guy, well done bro," in relation to his 'keeping antics in the build-up to Bruno Fernandes' penalty miss.
Fernandes set Premier League record in United defeat to Aston Villa
United's weekend defeat to Aston Villa is not one which will last long in the memory of any fan.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side lost for the third time in their last four matches thanks to Kortney Hause's late headed goal in a match which saw talisman Bruno Fernandes spur a huge opportunity to level scores when he blasted an added time penalty over the bar.
Fernandes is usually reliable in crucial moments of a match and his rare off day from 12-yards was a fitting reflection of the overall drop in standards which was seen across the pitch.
However, even in defeat the Portuguese play maker still managed to notch another positive Premier League record and do something which he had never previously done since moving to English football last year.
