Low pressure triggers high alert in Gujarat
Cyclonic conditions following low pressure area in the Arabian Sea triggered heavy rains in Saurashtra, central and south Gujarat on Wednesday as incessant downpour accompanied by gusty winds left several villages marooned and paralyzed normal life. At least four people have died in rain-related incidents — an elderly couple in Olpad taluka of Surat, a woman in Bharuch and a college girl in Chhota Udepur — since Tuesday night.
8 floodgates of Himayathsagar shut down
Eight out of 10 floodgates of Himayathsagar reservoir were closed on Wednesday. Meanwhile, six floodgates of Osmansagar reservoir remained open for the second consecutive day. Officials of HMWS&SB noticed a decrease in inflows from upstream areas of Himayathsagar and decided to close eight gates by 10 am, on Wednesday.

Cyclone Gulab: 4 more die in Andhra Pradesh; power back in 90% areas
The death toll in cyclonic storm Gulab that wreaked havoc in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts on Saturday increased to seven as four more died in Vizianagaram district. Vizianagaram police chief Deepika M Patil said the cyclone claimed four lives even as one person was yet to be traced.
