Uttar Pradesh: 15 killed, 26 injured as Delhi-Bahraich bus collides head-on with truck in Barabanki

At least nine people were killed while 27 others suffered injuries after a double decker bus collided head on with a truck in Dewa police station area of Barabanki district on Thursday morning. The private bus was on its way to Bahraich from Delhi.

LUCKNOW: As many as 15 persons were killed and 26 were injured when a double decker bus collided head on with a truck in Dewa police station area of Barabanki district on Thursday morning. The private bus carrying 55 passengers onboard was on its way to Bahraich from Delhi.
The deceased included nine men, two women, three children who have been identified while the identity of one man could not be ascertained.
Barabanki police said that prima facie it seems that the truck came from the wrong side and tried to save a stray cow, lost control and rammed into the bus.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the family of victims and Rs 50,000 for the injured. He also directed the officials to immediately reach the spot and help the victims.
Superintendent of police, Barabanki, Yamuna Prasad, said that the crash took place when the bus reached Kisan Path under Dewa police station area. In the meantime, a truck heading towards Lucknow from the opposite end collided head-on. According to eyewitness reports, a stray came in the middle of the road and the truck driver lost control on the wheels.
Anguished by the road accident in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. Prayers with the injured. Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 to the injured, the PM stated from his official twitter handle.
