Ranbir Kapoor

In an earlier interview, Ranbir Kapoor had mentioned that he smoked his share of weed during his time at film school. He also revealed that he used it again during the shoot of Rockstar as it helped him get into the character. "I used it again during Rockstar, this time as an acting tool. It was hard to get in the moment on stage with 300 junior artistes posing as a real audience. Pot made those moments feel real," he had said.

Fardeen Khan

Fardeen Khan was arrested for allegedly possessing cocaine in 2001. The actor went through a detoxification course and filed an application seeking immunity in the case, which was granted to him in 2012.

Talking to The Times Of India about his addiction, he had said, “Any mind-altering substance whether it's narcotics or alcohol or prescription pills, creates a lethal dependency. Before you know it, you're sucked into a downward spiral. The idea of any addiction is very damaging. People have all kinds of weird addictions, even shopping. My only addiction (now) is the love of my family. They're my life-supporting system. Please educate yourself vis-a-vis the consequences of whatever you are experimenting with. Addiction is not cool.”

Sanjay Dutt

Sanjay Dutt has been very vocal about his struggle with substance abuse. On Simi Garewal's chat show a few years ago, Sanjay had said that he could not recall a phase when he was really at peace. He started doing drugs in college. "It was just the 'in' thing at that time. Somebody just said try it and that was it," he had said.

Sanjay also admitted to having tried every drug in the book. At the India Today Conclave 2016, the actor revealed an incident that had taken place when he was under the influence of LSD, a psychedelic drug. Sanjay was called to his father Sunil Dutt's office. "I went there and by the time I reached there, he was sitting in front of me and it kind of hit me. I don't even know what he was saying, he was talking in slow motion and I'm trying to say, 'ji, ji'. I saw a wick come out from his head and it lit up, like a candle. I saw him melting like a candle. And I jumped on him, trying to put his face together and that wick off," he had said.

He went on, "Today when I think about it, I imagine what he must have felt. And he told his men, 'Isko leke jao, yeh pagal ho gaya hai'."

"Nine years of hell" was how Sanjay described his drug phase. Sanjay Dutt later decided to kick the habit and has been clean for over four decades now.

Prateik Babbar

Prateik opened up about his battle with drugs in an interview with IANS. He had said, "There was a part of my life that people didn't know about. All these years, people, fans and admirers saw me in a certain way as a good actor, a happy guy. But that wasn't the case. I wasn't happy, I wasn't being good to myself. I was a heavy addict. It was a huge problem."

Somy Ali

In a recent open letter to Aryan Khan's accuser, Somy Ali admitted to trying drugs in college in the USA and later with late actress Divya Bharti in Bangalore. She wrote, "I have no shame or qualms in admitting that at the age of 15, while I was in the US, I, due to peer pressure, tried weed with a bunch of high-school friends to look cool and to fit in. But soon, I realised it was not for me. Then once again in Bangalore, during a shoot with late Divya Bharti, we both engaged in weed. And that was literally the last time I did any sort of recreational drug."
