BHUBANESWAR: Three
Maoists, including two women, were gunned down by the police in Tulsi forest range in
Odisha's
Malkangiri district on Tuesday.
Their identities and ranks are being verified, police sources said.
“A joint team of our SOG and DVF teams carried out the operations in Malkangiri. The Maoists first opened fire on our personnel, who subsequently retaliated in self-defence.
So far, the bodies of three Maoists have been found. No loss of life or injuries from the side of police have been reported,” Odisha director general of police Abhay said.
The DGP said two firearms, including an INSAS have been seized from the Maoists.
“The combing and search operations are still in progress in the forest,” Abhay said.
Altogether six Maoists have been killed in police encounters so far this year in the state.
