Work continues to prepare a North Wales landmark for the return of a popular reality TV show.

Pictures taken by our North Wales Live photographer show teams are hard at work on the 19th Century Gwrych Castle site ahead of I'm A Celebrity crews returning to town later this year.

The shots manage to capture a large marque set up on the grounds as workers appear to be assembling a wooden set piece near the castle entrance.

The ITV series first came to the property in Abergele last year due to COVID-19 travel restrictions imposed by Australia preventing the show from taking place in its usual sunny climate of New South Wales.

Productions teams have confirmed they are returning to the historic estate on Welsh soil later this year amid similar problems.

Famous faces will be entering the castle grounds later this year in a bid to succeed podcasting super-mum Giovanna Fletcher - who claimed the castle crown in December 2020 in a close finish with BBC Radio One host Jordan North.

As the winter months approach, speculation has already started mounting about who will be enduring a stint in the Conwy castle's grounds.

Most recently, EastEnders star Adam Woodyatt has reportedly signed-up for the ITV show ahead of its return to Abergele.

Meanwhile, Good Morning Britain's Richard Madeley has reportedly agreed a deal to appear on the reality show.

ITV has yet to officially confirm anyone taking part on the 2021 line-up.

The production work comes just days after the Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust revealed that a fundraiser launched to revive the Grade One castle hit a milestone.

First set up in October 2020 - ahead of the first I'm A Celebrity series, the castle's preservation team appealed for help with their aims to restore the estate to its former glory.

This included the basics of getting the lights back on and water flowing through the taps.

On October 11, it was confirmed that enough funding was secured to bring electricity to the castle.

Peter Webster, organiser of the fundraiser, posted on Monday: "We would like to say a massive thank you to everybody who donated to our GoFundMe campaign! Your donation has enabled us to connect to mains electric for the first time in over 30 years.

"We now need help to enable us to reconnect the water at Gwrych Castle for the first time since the 1980s. We’re looking to have a borehole which will enable us to get water from the castle’s land.

"We appreciate your support and every penny raised will take us one step closer to bringing Gwrych Castle back to its former glory."
