One of the highlights of I’m A Celebrity is definitely watching the famous faces put themselves through hell in the form of Bushtucker Trials.

After being chosen by public vote, contestants have to complete a challenge in order to win stars, which can be exchanged for food.

But these challenges are often a gruelling physical, mental or food-based challenge, often resulting in the celebrities facing their worst fears.

Usually the celebrities are cheered on by Ant and Dec , who often grimace and giggle from the sidelines as the celebs retch, scream and struggle through the challenges.

What is a Bushtucker Trial on I’m A Celeb?

A staple part of the competition, Bushtucker Trials are the challenges by which the campmates gain their food treats.

During each trial they can collect stars, which can be exchanged for food for the camp.

The more stars they get, the better the camp eats.

But of course, this is a game show, and often the contestants voted to complete the trials by the public are the ones most likely to fail.

They are often the celebs who have the biggest fears or most extravagant reactions, rather than those who grin and bear it.

Despite revolving around ‘bush tucker’, the trials don’t always involve eating.

Often celebrities are confined in small spaces, subjected to hoards of creepy crawlies or forced to face their fear of heights.

Where does the name Bushtucker Trial come from?

The Bushtucker Trials take their name from ‘bush tucker’ - a nickname given to any native Australian food eaten by the nation’s Aboriginal people.

Buck tucker can vary from I’m A Celeb faves, the witchetty grub, through to foods like kangaroo meat which can be found in supermarkets.

More often than not, the trials involve the more grotesque-looking ‘snacks’ - contestants have in the past eaten crocodile penis, cockroaches, silk worms and more.

However with the 2020 I’m A Celeb taking place in Wales, the ‘bush tucker’ involved more traditional favourites including pigs’ trotters and tripe.

Celebs were also pelted with rotten tomatoes , forced to eat deer testicles and made to abseil down a cliff in the brutal Welsh weather.
