Lascelles makes playing-style admission about the Mike Ashley era

Newcastle United Captain, Jamaal Lascelles has given an exclusive interview to ChronicleLive, following the completion of the Amanda Staveley and Saudi PiF-led takeover.

In the interview, Lascelles admitted the club were forced to play defensive football under the ownership of Mike Ashley.

"I've been here six years now and it has been repetitive in terms of the owner and the way we have had to play.

"Me personally I prefer to play in a back four - I think it's better for the team.

"With the players we have, we have an amazing attacking threat and we can get up the pitch.

"Especially the position we're in now, we need to win games.

"We can't be sitting off."

Speaking on BBC Five Live, Shearer said:

"They’re not going to attract world stars straight away. There is process like Manchester City and Chelsea went through. You’ll get through a number of managers and players to get to where you want to be. You need players in the immediate term to get you out of a relegation battle.
