Nebraska farmer says soybeans meet expectations but no bumper crop

Central-Nebraska grower Clay Govier says his soybeans won’t be a bumper crop this year like in other parts of the Midwest. “I’ve definitely heard some really big numbers out there but I would say on our farm above average but not a home run.”

The latest crop progress report says 76 percent of the crop has been harvested.

He tells Brownfield he’s not sure why yields have varied that much across the state. “On our farm, maybe we didn’t water enough there right at the very end. We didn’t catch quite as many rains as other parts of the state further east.”

The USDA says 41 percent of corn is harvested with 69 percent of the crop rated good-to-excellent.

Ninety-three percent of winter wheat is planted with more than three-quarters of the crop emerged.

Sorghum condition is rated 53 percent good-to-excellent with 58 percent of the crop in.

Fifteen percent of pasture and range conditions are rated good-to-excellent.
