The Chico High girl’s tennis team defeated Pleasant Valley 9-0 on Tuesday in the semifinals for the Northern Section tournament at Chico High.

In singles, Paige Sittanggang, Sydney Vaughn, Skylar Granlund, Julia McGarva, Aubrey Leyland and Kaylee Morehead won their matches in straight sets.

In doubles, the teams of Clare Schaefer and Addison Fowkes, Alexa Agnew and Erika Matson, Kylee Let and Taylor Seidenstricker won in straight sets.

The Panthers will now host Shasta in the Northern Section finals on October 27 in Chico. Chico High enters as the No. 1 seed.

Prep field hockey

Pleasant Valley 2, Red Bluff 0: Riley Kucich scored twice for PV in the Vikings’ regular season finale. Kucich scored one goal in the second quarter and one in the fourth quarter. Brooklyn Longueira assisted on both of Kucich’s goals.

PV goalkeeper Savannah Cresswell recorded no saves in the shutout for the Vikings.

PV (12-4, 12-2 Eastern Athletic League) plays next at the EAL/Sac Joaquin Super Regional tournament Oct. 30 at PV.

Prep volleyball

Pleasant Valley 3, Shasta 0: Pleasant Valley won on the road 25-18, 25-12, 27-25 on Tuesday.

Emma Daugherty led PV in kills with eight, and Delaney Thau and Alli Mimbs had seven kills each. Mimbs and Brisa Reyes had three aces each. Thau and Kenna Chapin led PV in digs with 15 each, Mimbs had 12, and Daugherty and Kendal Thau had 10 digs each. Mimbs helped set up the PV offense with a team-high 12 assists.

PV (18-14, 7-2 EAL) plays next at 6 p.m. Wednesday at home against Cosumnes Oaks before playing the Vikings’ regular season finale at 6 p.m. Thursday at home against Enterprise.

College men’s golf

Chico State at Otter Invitational: Chico State finished tied Cal State Monterey Bay for third place in the Wildcats’ final event of the fall season Monday and Tuesday in Seaside. The Wildcats finished 29-over par 893 as a team after the three-round event.

Cal State San Bernardino finished first as a team at 25-over 889.

Christopher Colla finished in second place on the individual leaderboard with a 1-over par 217. Colla finished four shots behind Cal State San Marcos’ Matthew Pennington. Chico State’s Tyler Ashman finished tied for eighth place at 6-over par 222, and Mike Stephens finished 15-over par 231.

Chico State competes next on Feb. 14, 2022 at the Cal State Sam Marcos Fujikura Invitational at Shadowridge Golf Club in Vista.
