The Scottish Government has published the latest Covid infection rate data for every local authority area in the country.

Clackmannanshire had the highest seven-day positivity rate of anywhere in Scotland, with the figure standing at 491.3 per 100,000 population.

West Lothian, Stirling, Falkirk, East Ayrshire and Fife all recorded rates of more than 400 in the week between October 12 and 18.

The Shetland Islands had the lowest rate in Scotland, with a figure of 74.3 per 100,000 population recorded over those seven days.

Stirling is among the six hotspots

Earlier this week, Scottish health officials started investigating the so-called ‘Delta Plus’ variant of Covid.

It was revealed that around 6% of cases around the UK have been sequenced to the strain, which is also known as AY.4.2.

Nicola Sturgeon urged Scots to continue to practice good personal hygiene in a bid to prevent the spread of the variant.

The First Minister tweeted on Tuesday “The need to monitor this was discussed @scotgov Cabinet earlier.

“More generally, cases here - though lower than few weeks ago - remain higher than we’d like.

“So please take care: wear masks, wash hands, ventilate indoor spaces and get vaccinated.”
