Zambia: 14 gov’t officials detained over corruption

(MENAFN) Zambian anti-corruption agency has detained 14 former and current administration officials over graft offenses.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) noted in a report on Wednesday that the 14, comprising a former permanent secretary, were detained for failure to follow measures and for fraudulent false accounting.

Former Southern Province permanent secretary Sibanze Simuchoba and two other officials were detained for failure to adhere to applicable measures in the way they ratified transfer of funds from a named account without the authorization of the secretary to the Treasury; 11 other officials from Choma district were detained for fraudulent false accounting.

The ACC report said that the 14 are projected to show up in court on Nov. 3.
