SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Central Valley families now have a SAFE Center where they can access food, clothing, internet access and other needs through the school district.
It’s also free — the Student and Family Engagement Center opened Monday, Oct. 11 at the former Keystone Elementary School.
As an after-school club and community hub for social services, there’s a technology center, clothing and food bank, a community room and laundry services.
The technology center has 12 laptops, school supplies and printing services. The SAFE Center is also hoping to provide tutoring for kids in the afternoons and evenings in the future.
The clothing and food bank has free non-perishable food items, clothes, shoes, school supplies, backpacks and hygiene products for families.
It was all generously donated by Spokane Valley Partners and those in the community can donate to it as well.
The community room includes a play area for young children as well as seating for parents and families.
Laundry services are by appointment only, Mondays and Thursdays, at least for now.
The Boys & Girls Club is a community partner that helped make the SAFE Center possible.
In all the other vacant classrooms are program rooms for kids in B&G Club.
According to the official webpage, Central Valley School District provides these services through its homeless liaisons, school social workers, English language development staff, school nurses, and many other highly-qualified staff.
All SAFE Center services are free and available to all children, youth, parents and families who live in CVSD regardless of social, ethnic or socioeconomic status.
The SAFE Center is located at 612 S. McDonald Rd and open Mondays from 9 a.m. to noon and Thursdays 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
