After undertaking a two-year investigation that found “widespread racial harassment” of Black students who were threatened, assaulted and called the N-word, slaves and other epithets in a large Utah school district, the U.S. Department of Justice on Thursday announced an extensive settlement agreement requiring the district to create a new department for investigating complaints, hire agreed-on consultants, compile and analyze data, amend policies and take other measures.
