Wake Co. Sheriff's Office looking into road rage shootout on I-40

Wake County Sheriff's Office is looking into a road rage incident on Interstate 40 where people inside two cars shot at each other.

GARNER, N.C. — Wake County Sheriff's Office is looking into a road rage incident on Interstate 40 where people inside two cars shot at each other on Saturday.

Deputies responded to the area between Highway 70 in Garner and the Clayton bypass near the Wake County/Johnston County line around 12:30 p.m.

The vehicles and drivers involved were:

  • A newer model dark gray Chevrolet Impala.
  • A tan-colored Mitsubishi car with tinted windows.

Witnesses told authorities that shots were fired from both vehicles.

The agency is asking for the public's help in gathering information. Anyone who witnessed the shooting or may have information to help the investigation is asked to call the Wake County Sheriff’s Office at 919-856-6911.
