Maharashtra: Justice Lalit steps off stage in deference to differently abled at mega legal services camp in Beed

MUMBAI: Justice U U Lalit of the Supreme Court was in Beed, Maharashtra on Saturday for an event during a pan India legal awareness and outreach 45-day campaign that he had launched on October 2.
The Judge displayed his empathy by stepping down from the dais in deference to the differently abled and handed over ‘benefits’ including wheelchairs and sewing machines to them, during a mega legal services camp attended by almost 5000 people, said Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority officials.
The event also saw distribution of cheques by Justice Lalit with Bombay high court Judge, Justice S S Shinde as the guest of honour, under various schemes. Some contained compensation under various schemes for Covid orphans--persons who lost both parents due to Covid.
Justice Lalit said it was the “duty of judiciary” to make the public aware about the rights available to them under the various schemes, laws and particularly under the Constitution. He praised the various State legal services authorities for holding National Lok Adalats and disposing record number of cases.
The District Legal Services Authority, Beed had organized the mega legal services Camp at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Sankool, Beed. Justice Lalit who is the Executive Chairman, National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), spoke of the importance of legal awareness and legal aid to the beneficiaries and handed over “benefits”
Across the state, the MSLSA Authority is holding a series of events to spread legal awareness, till November 14.
Justice Amjad Sayed of Bombay high court, executive chairperson MSLSA and Justice S S Shinde and the Guardian Judge of Beed, Justice V V Kankanwadi were present and Justice Sayed and Justice Shinde too highlighted the salutary provisions under the Constitution of India of legal aid to the needy to ensure access to justice and equal justice for all.
