Louisville man wins $3 million off Kentucky Lottery scratch-off ticket
A Louisville man is Kentucky's latest millionaire after winning $3 million on a scratch-off lottery ticket, according to the Kentucky Lottery. The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased a "Break Fort Knox" scratch-off ticket at Cox’s Smoker's Outlet on Manslick Road in Louisville. He played the $30 ticket at home in his kitchen. "I scratched the ticket off from left to right when I got to the bottom row. It was the third number to the last I matched. That’s when I yelled, 'Yahtzee!'" he told lottery officials. He had to scratch the bottom of the ticket to see the prize amount, however, and that’s when saw "$3,000,000.""Wow, I’ve won. I double looked at it, and then called my significant other," he said. She initially thought it was a scam. He said he took a picture of the ticket with his phone and looked at it every day. The Jefferson County man told officials he scratched off the ticket last month but was getting everything in order before bringing the ticket to lottery headquarters. He chose to take the game's lump sum cash payment of $2,244,000, receiving a check for $1,593,240, after taxes."I'm planning to retire next year so it (winning) will help," he said. Cox's Smoker's Outlet will receive a bonus of $22,440 for selling the winning ticket. This is equivalent to 1% of the lump sum payment of $2,244,000.
