Fox News renames flagship NYC studio to honor founder Rupert Murdoch

Fox News Channel capped its monthlong celebration of the cable news giant’s 25th anniversary Wednesday by rededicating its main New York City studio in honor of founder Rupert Murdoch.

Henceforth, the multilevel, 3,675-square-foot space at the corner of Avenue of the Americas and 47th Street will be known as Studio M.

Murdoch, 90, the chairman of Fox Corporation and executive chairman of News Corp — the parent company of The Post — was joined by son Lachlan, Fox Corporation executive chairman and CEO, for the unveiling of a plaque designating the studio’s new name.

“As part of our 25th anniversary celebration this month, it is my great pleasure to announce the dedication of FOX News Channel’s premier studio to our founder Keith Rupert Murdoch,” Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott announced in a company-wide memo.

“We are all eternally grateful for his tremendous leadership, unyielding support and indelible impact,” Scott said of Murdoch. “His legacy in revolutionizing the entire media landscape and creating the Fox News Channel will continue to have enduring significance for all who work, visit and broadcast from Studio M.”

Studio M was first constructed to host Fox News’ coverage of the 2016 presidential election and originally known as “Studio F.”

In addition to the channel’s Election Night coverage, the space is used for the production of a quintet of Fox News Channel’s weekday mainstays: “FOX & Friends,” “The Five,” “The Faulkner Focus,” “Outnumbered” and “The Story with Martha MacCallum.”

Wednesday’s ceremony was the latest event to mark the channel’s silver anniversary. On Oct. 5, Scott and Fox News Media Executive Editor and President Jay Wallace were joined by a group of Fox News personalities who have been with the channel from its founding to ring the NASDAQ opening bell.

On Sept. 30, Fox News unveiled its renovated Washington, DC, bureau, from which the channel’s flagship 6 p.m. ET news program “Special Report” originates.

Fox News Channel debuted on Oct. 7, 1996, and has spent most of the last two decades atop the cable news ratings. FNC’s success has led to the creation of seven additional platforms — the most recent of which, Fox Weather, was launched on Monday.
