BJP seniors visit BSF sector HQ in Cooch Behar, court controversy
Cooch Behar: Bengal BJP seniors Dilip Ghosh and Sukanta Majumdar, who had been to Dinhata on Monday for the upcoming assembly bypoll, called on the deputy inspector general of the BSF sector headquarters at Kharija Kakribari in Cooch Behar the day after, courting controversy in district political circles.
Trinamool district president Partha Pratim Roy sniffed a “conspiratorial design” in the visit to the BSF camp on the last day of election campaign in border seat Dinhata when the model code of conduct was in force.
“This is a matter of concern. I fear that the visit is part of a design to influence voters. We may take it up with the Election Commission,” Roy said.
Ghosh, BJP national vice-president, said he had been to the BSF sector headquarters in his capacity as member of the Parliament standing committee on home affairs. “This is nothing new. I usually visit BSF camps whenever I go to places,” he said.
“I went to the BSF camp at Basirhat ahead of the Pujas. I had also been to the BSF camp at Hili in Dakshin Dinajpur. I talk to officers, get to know about their challenges,” Ghosh added.
Ghosh took Majumdar, MP and Bengal BJP president, with him to the BSF sector headquarters.
