West Ham United’s excellent week continued with a resolute display at home to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup before winning on penalties after a 0-0 draw.

While Pep Guardiola opted to rotate his squad, a number of big-names featured at the London Stadium yet, despite their rampant Premier League form, David Moyes’ side managed to keep them at bay.

West Ham were perhaps somewhat fortunate that Nathan Ake had not headed the English champions ahead on the stroke of half-time but, although City naturally dominated the possession, the game was one of very few clear-cut chances.

For the home side, it was the kind of performance that spoke of a team who knows exactly what their job is. Even with the likes of Declan Rice and Michail Antonio rested, West Ham were well organised, crowding City out on the few occasions they managed to get behind enemy lines.

When Said Benrahma struck the winning penalty, it was the least the home side deserved. A new era begins in the Carabao Cup while the good times keep rolling in East London.
