ATS arrests Unnao man with pistols

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (UP ATS) arrested a man from Unnao for possessing two prohibited 9 mm semi-automatic weapons on Friday.
The accused, identified as Sanoj Kumar, was arrested from Kotwali Nagar area of Unnao. Police said he had also travelled to Saudi Arabia through Pakistan, Malaysia and Indonesia. ATS claimed that some numbers were under surveillance and the suspects were involved in exchange of prohibited weapons with some international arms dealer.
Following which the details of those numbers were scanned and Sanoj was zeroed in. An official also said that many others are also linked with this arms racket and a probe is still underway.
IG, ATS, Gajendra Goswamy, said that the suspect, who has studied till high school, went to Saudi Arabia in 2005 from where he came back a few years ago.
“In 2020, at the time of Covid-19, a person posted on Facebook with a Japan work permit that if someone wants to work as a driver or any other job abroad. Sanoj reacted to the post and also sent his Whats app number,” said Goswamy. “Thereafter a message came on his WhatsApp, asking him to share the passport, Aadhar card and education certificate. A fortnight later, he was told that he will be assign work in his city only,” said the IG, saying it was suspicious. Goswamy said a five-day police custody remand has been granted to ATS by the court.
