UDHAGAMANDALAM: Disaster management teams in the Nilgiris have identified 22 locations as critical as they have been affected frequently due to rain.
The district has 283 vulnerable places in total. Based on instructions from the government ahead of heavy rain alerts, Supriya Sahu, principal secretary and the Nilgiris district monitoring officer, held a district-level meeting with all officials in Ooty to discuss about the disaster management programme.

Supriya Sahu said that the teams have been instructed to monitor these critical locations during the northeast monsoon period. "As of now, the rain situation in the district is manageable. We are prepared for any eventuality due to the monsoon in the district. Twenty-three static medical teams and 13 mobile medical teams are ready in the district."
She said 456 rescue camps are in place if people relocate from low-lying areas due to floods. Response inventories like machinery are also kept ready in case of landslides. "Besides, 42 zonal teams consisting of 3,025 officials from the revenue, highways, and PWD department have been formed as part of the disaster management programme," Sahu said.
All the 15 reservoirs in the district are being closely monitored.
