Varanasi-Lucknow route via Sultanpur blocked as goods train derails in Jaunpur

The engine and 20 bogies of a goods train heading towards Varanasi from Lucknow were derailed near Shri Krishna Nagar railway station in Jaunpur at 7.57am on Thursday.

VARANASI: The engine and 20 bogies of a goods train heading towards Varanasi from Lucknow were derailed near Shri Krishna Nagar railway station in Jaunpur at 7.57am on Thursday.
Due to it, the train movement on Lucknow-Varanasi rail route via Sultanpur was blocked and many trains including Delhi-Varanasi Mahamana Express were stopped at different railway stations, said additional divisional railway manager of Northern Railway, Varanasi, Ravi Chaturvedi.

He mentioned that the DRM NR Lucknow and other senior officials have reached the incident site, where an operation for clearing the tracks and for restoration of train movement has been started at an accelerated pace.

The goods trains with around 60 empty bogies was heading towards Varanasi from Lucknow. When it was passing through Shri Krishna Nagar railway station in Badlapur area of Jaunpur district, the derailment took place, said the officials, suspecting that the mishap occurred due to a damaged railway track.
Officials said that the actual cause of derailment would become clear following proper investigation.
As the bogies of the train started colliding with each other while derailing, hundreds of locals gathered near the incident site hearing the loud noise. The Shri Krishna Nagar station’s staff immediately alerted the neighbouring stations and senior officials about the incident after which all trains moving on Lucknow-Sultanpur-Varanasi line were stopped at different railway stations.
