Telangana: Cop suspended for 'torturing' tribal in Suryapet

A day after villagers protested against the alleged torture of a local tribal by Athmakur police in Suryapet district, superintendent of police (SP) Rajendra Prasad on Friday suspended sub-inspector M Lingaiah.

HYDERABAD: A day after villagers protested against the alleged torture of a local tribal by Athmakur police in Suryapet district, superintendent of police (SP) Rajendra Prasad on Friday suspended sub-inspector M Lingaiah.
Police said that the sub-inspector was suspended based on the report submitted by deputy superintendent of police (Suryapet Division) to the SP.

The probe against constable Mahesh, who is also facing the charges of assaulting Dharawath Veerashekar is pending.
Police said that a medical report of Veerashekar was yet to be submitted.
A few days ago, Athmakur police station had received a complaint that someone had stolen motor pumps from a farm land.
During the investigation, police took two persons into custody. During questioning, the police came to know that Veerashekar was accompanying the duo.
Veerashekar was called to the police station on Wednesday where he was also questioned.
He remained at the police station from evening till 12am on Thursday before he was let off on the condition that he would return to the police station on Thursday morning.
