North Wales is home to over 40 properties that are on sale for £1 million or more.

These properties range from farms and development opportunities to period homes dating back hundreds of years in some cases.

Naturally, the landscape lends itself well to luxury homes and many of the region's million pound residences have been designed to make the most of the surrounding scenery.

Here is a list of the top 10 most expensive houses currently on the market in North Wales, according to Rightmove.

1. £2.25m - Llangollen, Denbighshire

This nine bedroom Victorian hall in Llangollen was built in 1895. It sits within three acres of land which is surrounded by some stunning scenery.

It contains five substantial reception rooms, seven bathrooms as well as a formal lounge and several other rooms that have recently been refurbished in keeping with the Hall's original character.

A garden leads to a purpose-built decked area close to one of the small waterfalls on the edge of the River Dee.

The historic Pool Parc, near Ruthin, dates back to the 16th Century when it was home to the Salesbury family and the manor house was then rebuilt for William Bagot, 2nd Baron Bagot, in the 1820s.

Legend has it that the property was lost in a bet by the Bagot family and it was later sold to the District Health Authority, becoming a convalescent home and then an asylum.

It was used as an overspill for North Wales Hospital in Denbigh before closing in 1989.

The estate was snapped up by Ruthin-based Roberts Homes in 1992 with plans unveiled for a ‘care village’ - but this has never been developed.
