LAKHISARAI/JAMUI: Altogether six persons including five relatives of late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s family were killed and four others were injured in a ghastly accident on NH-333A near Pipra village under Halsi police station area in Lakhisarai district on Tuesday.
It was Laljit Singh (75) and family members who were returning to Jamui from Patna after cremation of his wife Geeta Devi (70).
Geeta was Haryana Police ADG OP Singh’s sister. The ADG is Sushant’s brother-in-law.
The SUV, in which all 10 were travelling, had collided head-on with a truck loaded with empty LPG cylinders, police said. The truck driver and co-driver fled from the spot immediately leaving behind the heavy vehicle, as per police.
The incident took place around 6am. Police said they had received information about the incident by 6.14am and all six persons had died on the spot.
Halsi police station SHO Awadhesh Kumar said that the slain persons are Laljit Singh (75), his two sons Amit Shekhar Singh alias Nomani Singh (52) and Ramchandra Singh (37) of Bhandra village under Khaira police station, Laljit’s daughter Baby Devi (42) of Malaypur, his niece Daisy Devi (40) of Ratanpur under Giddhaur police station area and driver Pritam Kumar Singh (29) of Sonpeh, all in Jamui district.
The SHO said four injured persons are Balmiki Singh (60) and his son Prashant Kumar alias Tonu (24) of Nawadih, Balmukund Singh (60) and his son Dilkhush Singh (23) of Chauhandih, both under Khaira police station area. He said all have been referred to Patna for treatment.

“Balmiki is Amit’s father-in-law. Balmukund is Laljit’s brother-in-law. Daisy was her daughter,” he said.
SHO Kumar said Geeta had died in Patna in course of treatment. “They all were returning to Jamui after cremating her at Bans Ghat in Patna,” he said.
He said the SUV in which the entire family was travelling, was mangled to such an extent that two bodies including that of driver was trapped inside for more than an hour and could be extracted after moving the vehicle.
Lakhisarai SP Sushil Kumar, who also received call from the ADG after the accident, said the SUV was overloaded and eyewitnesses told police that it was travelling at a high speed. He said the NH was single-lane at the spot.
“Either the driver slept on wheels or he failed to control the vehicle due to high speed after which it rammed the truck,” SP said.
Bodies were handed over to concerned family members after post mortem. Laljit’s nephew Sujaan Singh had lodged FIR against the unidentified truck driver in connection with the deaths, police said.
