Govt staff arrested in Rs 2.7 crore worth DA case

The vigilance sleuths on Friday arrested Rusinath Baral, assistant executive engineer of rural development department (Ranpur division) in Nayagarh district, for possessing disproportionate assets worth around Rs 2.70 crore.

BHUBANESWAR: The vigilance sleuths on Friday arrested Rusinath Baral, assistant executive engineer of rural development department (Ranpur division) in Nayagarh district, for possessing disproportionate assets worth around Rs 2.70 crore.
The assets were detected from different places during raids. The vigilance also found Rs 35,000 in Rs 500 demonetised notes from his house.

Vigilance sources revealed that Baral's assets recovered were 397% more than his known source of income. The vigilance had simultaneously raided four places led by a four deputy superintendent of police to unearth his ill-gotten money.
Besides a three-storied and a single-storied building found in his name in Bhubaneswar and Dhenkanal respectively, the investigators also found nine plots and bank deposit of Rs 44.73 lakh and insurance of Rs 13.42, gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 9.04 lakh and Rs 1.30 lakh in cash.
He was produced before the special judge, vigilance, in Dhenkanal and his bail plea was rejected. He has been remanded in judicial custody.
The vigilance squad also raided houses and properties of Ramesh Prasad Nag, section officer at the sub-collector's office in Subarnapur district and found disproportionate asset worth Rs 1.3 core. The officials found four plots at different places and two buildings in Balangir. The vigilance arrested Nag.
