Newcastle United fans are jokingly calling for Andy Carroll to come home after his spectacular goal for Reading against Swansea City.

The Royals ended the Swans eight-game unbeaten run on Saturday with a 3-2 victory in south Wales.

It was a disastrous start though as Jamie Paterson scored for the hosts within three minutes but Tom Dele-Bashiru scored an equaliser for Reading less than sixty seconds later.

Reading took the lead on the half hour mark thanks to a fantastic bit of skill from Carroll, who was making his first start in the blue and white shirt.

A delicate touch to bring the ball down allowed the 32-year-old striker a clear run on goal before cutting back to evade the chasing defender and firing into the corner with a left-footed strike.

Reading would go on to claim a 3-2 win with Danny Drinkwater scoring the winner after Ryan Manning equalised for Swansea early in the second-half.

Newcastle fans still keep a close eye on the Gateshead-born Carroll, who rose through the youth ranks with the Magpies before two stints with the club at senior level.

“Bring him home,” said @randallbell on Twitter.

Phil Duggan posted: “Yes @AndyTCarroll lad! Great to see you back amongst it.”

“Lovely stuff. Loves a goal against Swansea,” said @Jack_Hobson96.

@JakeNUFC1994 posted: “Can we bring him back please?”

Carroll scored 31 league goals in 80 games for the Toon before he made a £35million move to Liverpool in 2011. He failed to live up to the price tag though at Anfield and was snapped up by West Ham United two years later.

Carroll scored 33 league goals in 126 league games for the Hammers in a six-year spell interrupted by injuries before returning to the North East to rejoin his boyhood club in 2019.

@HolyGoalies posted on Twitter: “Good to see the king @AndyTCarroll back at it!”

“Touch of class from the big man,” said Anthony Kent.

Jake Jackman said: “It’s reminiscent of 2009/10 Carroll in the Championship. He used to score those types of goals a lot. Didn’t think he had it in him any more.”
