It's tough to find good talent these days to fill open positions, whether it's hourly wage workers or executive positions. That's where job websites come in, which can be both helpful for job seekers to find the right positions and for employers to find the right people to fill them. The best job sites help create these matches made in employment heaven.

Every job site works in a different way, with a different cost structure, intelligent algorithms, and additional resources to help you through the entire hiring process. But which ones are the best?

To help you discover the best talent, we've curated a list of 10 of the best places you can post a job online and researched everything you need to know about each one to help you make the right decision for your company.

1. LinkedIn

Price per Post: Free, Tiered plans

BBB Rating: A+

Free Trial? No

With more than 690 million members, LinkedIn isn't just a place to connect with other business contacts, share ideas, and promote your skills and company. It's also a good place to hire quality talent. LinkedIn has the advantage in that member profiles are effectively resumes, which makes it simple to find someone who might be qualified—even if they aren't actively looking for employment.

Once your job ad is set up, you can use LinkedIn's job description templates to have it promoted in e-mails, in relevant places across the LinkedIn website, and even through mobile push notifications for job seekers who subscribe to them. Filtering and management tools help rate candidates as a "good fit" or not based on the skills and abilities you are looking for, gaining accuracy over time as the post runs its course.

You can post a job for free, but the paid tier adds worthwhile extras, like having the job moved to the top of the search results and recommendations, and the job being sent to qualified candidates via mobile alerts. You'll also receive smart alerts any time a qualified person applies, via desktop, the mobile app, or both. Pricing is dynamic based on various factors, including the specific role you're hiring for, where the job is located, similar posts, how many other companies are hiring for the position, and more. But you can set a budget based on a recommendation from a customer service representative and pay-per-click. For example, you could pay $10/day for a job ad for up to 30 days or set a budget of $300 and the job stays up until that threshold is reached (or you fill the position).

LinkedIn offers a variety of educational and informative resources as well, including tips and guides to help you through the hiring process. A unique feature is the ability to invite applicants to send a two-minute video answering predetermined questions so you can evaluate their personality and communications skills as well as their written resume. Thanks to insights from the active community, LinkedIn has a reputation for effectively matching job posts with candidates who have the right skills, experience, and goals to fill the position.

2. Indeed

Credit: Indeed Indeed claims to add 10 new job listings every second.

Price per Post: Free, Sponsored options for as little as $5/day

BBB Rating: A+

Free Trial? n/a

One of the biggest names in the job search world, Indeed has more than 250 million monthly users and claims to add 10 new job postings every second. Jobs are posted across every industry imaginable, and vary from entry-level to executive. You can even post freelance, part-time, and internship gigs. It's easy for candidates to search by a variety of criteria using the intuitive interface, including job title, location, salary range, date posted, and experience needed. A neat feature is the ability to add screener questions to filter candidates even further. Once candidates have been chosen for a first round of interviews, you can message them and conduct live, virtual interviews without having to download any additional software.

Everything can be managed in one easy-to-use dashboard, say current users, with the most qualified candidates automatically grouped to the top of the page as a shortlist you can go through first. Once you mark the ones you are most interested in, the others will be automatically declined. Job seekers can apply through your career site or Indeed's Applicant Tracking System (ATS), which filters resumes based on matched skills, keywords, and other criteria.

As with other job sites, you can post for free but you get plenty of worthwhile extras from the paid tiers, which are offered on a pay-per-performance basis. There are no contracts or commitments: pay as little as $5/day based on post engagement. You can set a budget threshold and change or cancel it at any time. With the paid version, you can immediately access candidates who most intrigue you, or even choose to sponsor the job to invite candidates that match to apply, as well as have the job posted to partner sites like AARP.org and Bloomberg. Paying also ensures better visibility when job seekers search for similar positions.

In addition to its mobile application, Indeed also has a help center and help guides to aid in your job search.

3. ZipRecruiter

Price per Post: Tiered plans

BBB Rating: A+

Free Trial? Yes (4 days)

Posting on ZipRecruiter sends your job ad to 100+ partner job sites like Google, Trovit, and Salary.com. The site's intelligent matching technology looks at factors like skills, education, and experience to help find the right candidates, then invites them to apply. Employers can manage candidates as they apply using the convenient and intuitive all-in-one dashboard where they can sort, review, and even rate candidates. The system learns from these ratings to send similar applicants your way so you always have a good pool of qualified individuals to fill open positions. Existing customers compare the service to a "personal recruiter."

You can get help in setting up the job ad using the customizable templates for the job description, and even automatically send a pre-written personal message to favored potential candidates so it's more likely that they will complete an application. There's also the option to add screening questions.

ZipRecruiter does require a subscription to use, however, with plans that start at $299/mo. (with a 4-day free trial). Each plan can be customized to meet your needs and comes with the help of a 24/7 customer service rep. The plans and pricing are customized based on factors like the number of ads you want to post per month, how many resume downloads you want, the industry you're in, location, and more. If you find a candidate before the 30 days are up, you can remove the ad and replace it with another for the duration of the time.

There's also an easy-to-use mobile application and mobile version of the website so you can keep on top of your job posting from virtually anywhere.

4. Monster

Credit: Monster Monster has been around since the '90s.

Price per Post: Various plans

BBB Rating: B-

Free Trial? Yes (4 days)

One of the most well-known job posting websites, Monster has been around since 1999, helping connect employers with job seekers across a variety of industries. According to the company, 29 resumes and 7,900 job search queries are entered into the site every minute.

While Monster features fewer job search filters than Indeed, you do get to see the match potential for candidates in order to have a better pool from which to choose. Past users also praise the ability to see a large and targeted group of candidates in a short period of time and appreciate Monster's top-notch technical and support staff.

With access to more than 2,000 pre-written job descriptions to help kickstart your search, along with mobile-optimized job views, Monster also sets itself apart thanks to partnerships with Military.com and hundreds of local newspapers. Once you add a job posting, it will be automatically included in e-mail alerts to candidates that are a good match. You can also run searches for resumes, set up employer branding, video recruitment technology, and more. Everything can be managed from the easy-to-use dashboard. Monster also includes built-in text and e-mail features so you can contact candidates directly.

You can post for free for the first four days, but you need to first select from the three available plans. For $279/mo., you can hire for one position and view up to 50 resumes. The middle-tier plan, which is $399/mo., lets you post up to three positions and view up to 150 resumes, while the highest-tier option ($649/mo.) includes up to five job postings and 250 resume views. With the two upper-tier plans, you also get a performance boost that automatically sends your job ads to hundreds of other relevant websites, as well as precision filtering to help narrow the search, and e-mail alerts when a new resume has been posted by a candidate that could be a good match.

Alternatively, there's also pay-for-performance options, where you can set a budget and start and stop a post at any time, which you can arrange with a customer service rep through the 1-800 number provided. Like the other hiring sites mentioned, Monster offers plenty of helpful resources, tips, and guides to help employers along the way.

Price per Post: Various plans

BBB Rating: A+

Simply add a job title and location to view matching candidates, then post the job to receive responses from interested parties in real time.

CareerBuilder uses AI data to receive exclusive insights on the ideal candidates for the positions, and you can use your own platform and integrate the ATS with job postings or the one CareerBuilder offers to manage job postings, candidates, and outreach campaigns. There is a fee to use CareerBuilder, with various tiers and plan options. The Lite plan is $219/mo. and allows for posting one job per month, viewing up to 500 resumes, and receiving match notifications, application alerts, and custom lists. 6. SimplyHired

Credit: SimplyHired It's free to post listings on SimplyHired.

Price per Post: Free (pay-to-Ccntact)

BBB Rating: D-

Free Trial? n/a

While SimplyHired isn't as robust and feature rich as the other top job search websites, it has one advantage over the others: it's completely free... sort of. You can post as many jobs as you want and view candidates without having to pay a dime. If you do find a qualified applicant, however, then, and only then, will you pay. It's sort of like a referral fee for connecting you to a person you may hire. The plus: it's cost-effective. The minus: that candidate might not work out. That said, there's no guarantee you will fill every position from other sites either.

SimplyHired uses 100+ job boards like CareerBliss, GetHired.com, and even Indeed, to get your job posting out there so it's viewable to all candidates within your targeted area, though distribution ranges based on a variety of considerations, like demand and the specific industry. The job post then uploads to the HRIS system (Human Resources Information System), where you will receive tools for hiring, onboarding, and management. You can view resumes, cover letters, and answers to screener questions, however you won't get the applicant's contact information unless you decide to move forward.

Pricing starts at $9.99/candidate reveal but it varies depending on various factors, including the level of experience required for the position, the number of available applicants, number of employees looking for similar talent, and so on. Once paid, you receive the applicant's name and contact information, and you can take it from there.

Past users say they appreciate how easy it is to filter for the right candidates, which saves the hiring party time weeding through tons of applications. Though some admit the site, which is owned by Indeed, is lacking in customer support.

SimplyHired is, as the name implies, the simplest and most affordable of the options, so it may not rival the others. But for a small business with a limited budget, or for companies who only need to infrequently fill positions, it might lead to qualified candidates that won't break the bank if they don't work out.

7. Glassdoor

Credit: Glassdoor Promote your company's branding and reputation.

Price per Post: n/a

BBB Rating: NR

Free Trial? n/a

Interestingly, while some believe that Glassdoor is a source for posting open jobs and resumes, it actually isn't. Glassdoor is partnered with Indeed, whereby interested companies looking to post for open positions are directed to Indeed to do so. However, Glassdoor is often equated with job searches because it is designed as a resource to help promote companies and their branding and reputation, while serving as a useful resource for job seekers looking to learn more.

Before applying to a job, candidates can research the company on Glassdoor, which is why many businesses find it useful to build a company profile on the site. It's entirely free and allows for highlighting important aspects of the business, like the mission statement, awards, and accomplishments. Employers can also learn more about how they are perceived in the job market by looking at ratings and reviews from former (or current) employees, and respond to these to show active engagement. Ratings and reviews can be filtered to provide a more holistic picture and address issues or applaud wins.

There are enhanced plan options for those who want to leverage Glassdoor's reach to promote their companies among job seekers, include the standard plan that offers featured reviews and custom content and the upper-tier plan that adds affiliated profiles. However, you need to contact sales to get pricing details.

Glassdoor offers other add-ons as well, ideal for larger companies that want to be top-of-mind for the most qualified candidates, especially when looking to hire for top-level or hard-to-fill positions. Glassdoor also features lots of helpful resources on the website for both job seekers and employers.

8. FlexJobs

Price per Post: Flat rates vary

BBB Rating: A+

Free Trial? No

The flexible workforce is more so a reality these days than ever before, and many people are searching for flexible jobs that work with their unusual schedules. Meanwhile, employers are considering offering such positions if they can find the right people. FlexJobs aims to connect these two worlds with its specialization in remote workers.

FlexJobs stands out among the pack not only for promoting the concept of flexible work, but also being able to tap into typically hard-to-reach job seekers, including military spouses, rural workers, digital nomads, working moms, and people with disabilities. In fact, many job seekers love that they were able to find jobs that fit their lifestyles using this site.

Once you post a job, you can integrate with one of the company's ATS partners and automatically sync applicant information. The site uses special geo-targeting to be able to pinpoint local, national, or international candidates.

Hiring parties get limited resume and job searches for a single flat rate that's as low as $399/mo., but FlexJobs vets every membership request to ensure they meet strict criteria for posting only positions with work flexibility. This allows candidates to browse confidently, knowing they'll find relevant opportunities that fit what they're looking for. Once accepted, you can pay monthly or annually. There are also neat upgrade options like virtual job fairs, webinars, and targeted e-mail blasts.

Once you're an approved member company with FlexJobs, you can communicate with the support team for help with posts as well as consultations on recruitment in general, branding strategies, and other related topics.

9. SnagAJob

Credit: SnagAJob / Reviewed Find hourly workers on SnagAJob.

Price per Post: $89/mo.

BBB Rating: A+

Free Trial? No

Don't let the whimsical name fool you: SnagAJob is a highly rated job search and posting website that is designed specifically for another growing segment of the job market: hourly workers. Using matching technology, SnagAJob can help track applicants and find the right person to fill an hourly job, whether it's a permanent position or covering shifts.

Unsurprisingly, SnagAJob focuses on industries like restaurants, logistics/warehouse, grocery stores, cleaning services, hospitality, and eCommerce, using a data matching algorithm to pair the right candidates with the right employers and open positions. Once subscribed, employers will get access to more than 6 million hourly workers and can easily create job posts in minutes that candidates can apply to in a single click. You can add pre-screening questions to weed out unqualified persons and even use the handy tool to schedule interviews. Employers can also directly communicate with applicants via text or e-mail.

The cost is a flat rate of $89/mo. with seemingly no limit to the number of job posts. The one caveat is that they must all be hourly positions. It's a great site for companies who are in a bind and need to find someone to fill an upcoming vacation, an unexpected employee exit, short-staffing, or extra help during busy seasons. Employers that use the site currently say it's a great way to help keep a stabilized crew going through the year and love the value for dollar.

10. Nexxt

Credit: Nexxt Nexxt utilizes Text2Hire, which sends text messages to job seekers.

Price per Post: 3 Plan options

BBB Rating: A

Free Trial? No

With a portfolio of 42 million searchable candidates, 85 million members, and 28 million resumes, Nexxt focuses on helping employers fill all types of jobs with a system it calls job "slots" versus postings. This allows a company to post a job in an open slot based on the specific paid plan they have and switch it out with another job if that one is filled before the month period has finished.

Nexxt uses job matching technology to analyze job seeker profiles and behavioral data to help bring employees and job seekers together. The company also uses its own hiring software to integrate job posting tools, applicant management, and reporting. There's an interactive desktop platform and search API, but the company doesn't appear to have a mobile app. They do, however, use a feature called Text2Hire, which will send your open postings to job seekers who have subscribed to receive relevant job-related text message alerts.

There are three plan tiers: Talent Pro is $199/mo. which allows employers to post one job per month where candidates can apply through the Nexxt platform. If you step up to Recruiter ($299/mo.), you get up to five jobs and up to 150 views per month, while the top-tier Recruiter Premium plan affords up to 10 job slots and 250 views per month for a monthly fee of $499. With the latter two plans, candidates can apply both through the Nexxt platform and a link to your own career site. These premium plans also include talent network access so you can be instantly matched with qualified candidates. The plans auto-renew monthly but you can change, or even downgrade, as needed.

Alternatively, there's a Programmatic Advertising option that lets you create your own budget and customized plan, devised with the help of a customer service and sales representative via the 1-866 number provided. Larger hiring needs are served through the FLEXXPlan targeted recruitment solutions.

With all plans, you get targeted exposure to niche sites depending on your industry, whether it's tech, administrative jobs, or construction, for example. A company logo and description can be included, and the job ads are promoted in candidate e-mail alerts. As a software company, Nexxt also offers a variety of helpful resources for employers, including infographics, whitepapers, a blog, articles, and more.
