Two days ago, a team of the Kanpur Police went to Bhind in Madhya Pradesh and brought the semi-automatic rifle after completing legal formalities.

The ambush dates back to July 3 last year, when a police team came under heavy gunfire from rooftops near Vikas’s residence at Bikru. Eight policemen died and six were  injured in the ambush.

The police have filed a chargesheet against 44 people, including two policemen. All the accused are in jail. According to the police, after the incident, Vikas and his two aides Amar Dubey and Prabhat Mishra (all three dead) went into hiding in Kanpur before moving out of Uttar Pradesh. In March this year, the state police arrested seven people for “providing shelter to Vikas and others” in Kanpur. Police also recovered arms and ammunition allegedly used  in the crime. Among the arrested was a MP youth, whom the police identified as Manish Yadav.
