Editorial boss quits publisher to join business magazine

Stephen Emerson 1An editorial boss is leaving a regional publisher to lead a business title’s content operation.

Stephen Emerson, JPIMedia’s commercial editor for Scotland, is set to join Black Ox Media & Events, publisher of The Business Magazine.

The Guildford-based firm says Stephen’s appointment is part of a drive to grow the magazine, which is aimed at the South-East of England’s business community, and “deepen the relationship with its audience and partners”.

He will also focus on building traffic to The Business Magazine website and supporting Black Ox’s events division.

Stephen, pictured, was previously head of digital at The Scotsman and Edinburgh Evening News before taking up his current role in 2018.

He said: “I am delighted to be joining Black Ox Media & Events and The Business Magazine.

“I think there is a gap in the market for a modern and dynamic business news website that has aspiration at its core and seeks to provide useful and inspiring content to people who are looking to make their mark on the economy of the South-East of England.

“The site will focus on key growth areas of the South-East economy and, along with accompanying print and online solutions, be able to provide clients with measured, targeted and effective content campaigns.”

Stephen will take up his new role next month.

Black Ox and The Business Magazine’s managing director Richard Thompson said: “We are very excited to welcome Stephen to the group, his editorial expertise combines perfectly with his ability to work with our clients and advertisers to bring their stories to life.

“We have ambitious plans for our future, with new products and initiatives in the pipeline for 2022, where Stephen and his editorial team will be key assets and integral to our business growth strategies.”
