“It’s been an absolute honor to hone the skills of the country’s finest faces,” states Supreet Bedi on her years of association with the Miss India Organization
Miss India Organization has been a footboard to many dreams, and over the last few decades, through their legacy, have presented numerous talented youth role models to lead the world in the most distinguished fields. However, it's not easy to mold young talents with the right potential to lead and represent our country.

Following their national win, these young men and women are trained and mentored by the best in the industry, across diverse disciplines, to bring about their holistic transformation. That includes top-notch fashion designers, stylists, ace photographers, skincare experts, ramp walk trainers, fitness partners, makeup experts, and, the utmost importance, communication experts. Today, we introduce to you Miss India Organizations' gem, who, in her association of beyond seven years, has groomed our Miss Indias, Miss Divas, and Mr Indias with a larger-than-life transformation. Yes, it's none other than the beautiful and talented, Supreet Bedi.

Supreet, who began her journey as a pageant finalist, was discovered to be a dynamic television anchor. She has also featured in several films including 'Zindagi na Milegi Dobara,' 'Rock on,' 'Fateh' and has been a part of the Indian version of '24.' In addition, she has also been recognized with 'Rashtriya Ekta Sammaan' for her outstanding services, achievements, and contributions in the field of education. In a recent conversation with the ever-so-enthusiastic Supreet, she opened up on her journey from being a beauty queen herself to finding her passion for anchoring, experience working with the national winners, tips and tricks for effective communication, and much more.

As a self-made woman, you are an inspiration to all the young girls out there. Could you brief us more about your journey, your rise to being a TV anchor, celebrity host, and communication trainer for Miss India Organization?

My journey began in 2005 when I decided to participate in a pageant and bagged the subtitle of Miss Talented. I had chosen to recite my own poem that compared the complicated expression of love to different styles of consuming an orange — a quick pulp, a refreshing juice, and ultimately devouring the fruit with patience. I still remember the applause that followed my closing lines, “Love is an Orange —to feel the real taste, you have to peel the waste!”
Straight after, the production house shooting the pageant declared that I had the ingredients of being an anchor. To be honest, it wasn’t a profession that consciously crossed my mind. My parents ran an English Teaching Institute, and that’s where I was eventually headed. However, the team noticed that I was pretty spontaneous in my bytes and often mock-interviewed my fellow contestants —holding a fake mic and asking the clichéd question: “How do you feel?”. They convinced me to audition for Zoom Television’s international travel show. So, I unmaliciously tricked a wedding videographer into shooting my audition script in my balcony as I ad-libbed and pretended to be at a mesmerizing beach in Thailand. He was perplexed as no bride was in sight, but he kept shooting earnestly at my behest! I couriered my DVD (yes, that’s how far back this story goes!) and thankfully heard back from the channel. A few look tests later, I was stood in Malaysia giving my first anchor link. I had tears rolling down my cheeks at the sheer disbelief of how my destiny was ushering me. There was no stopping after! From entertainment news to celebrity interviews, red carpet events, to award nights, I became the face of Zoom Television. After six dedicated years, I branched out to other genres - fashion, food, sports, etc., becoming a popular name in the anchoring world and LIVE events. In fact, I became the first presenter to introduce MMA to India with Super Fight League. Having hosted the making of Femina Miss India year after year through Main Miss India - a show that took the viewers behind the scenes of the nation’s most prestigious pageant; I got to interact with the contestants personally and witness their verbal struggle. That’s when I approached Miss India Organisation with a training plan that focused on impressive communication skills. Seven years and many successful delegates later, I’m still at it!

You have played an essential role in grooming Miss India, Miss Diva, and Mr India contestants for international representation. Could you share your experience working with all those young talents?

It’s been an absolute honor to hone the skills of the country’s finest faces. They are all unique with a common desire to stand India proud. Having a dream isn’t enough; one needs to know how to shape it with powerful tools, and all our delegates have been focused enough to ensure magical results! A winning attitude is a great attribute, but it can only be conveyed through their words and actions. Therefore, I regularly stress the need for communication power to give life to mere thoughts. The process may seem quite repetitive, but practice is the only key to vocal success. Apart from structuring their thoughts, we work on various elements of voice modulation like stress, tone, clarity, etc. These delegates may have come to me murmuring, but they were certain to leave with a roar that endorsed their readiness.

Supreet, you are one of the most talented female anchors. With the world entirely going digital due to the pandemic, we were able to see and witness more of you, your sharp wit, spontaneity in managing a session during the LIVE conversations with former beauty queens. Could you share your experience on the shift from the real stage to hosting an event on the reel stage?

A new platform always brings with it notions of uncertainty. I’ve been anchoring on stage for over 15 years! Needless to say, it has become my comfort zone. Audience interaction and feedback are what I thrive on, and that’s precisely what’s missing on the Reel stage! Muted mics and one-way delivery leave a lot of room for guesstimation! Am I audible? Did they understand me? Did my statement resonate with them? Was there a silent applause? The mind is forever rushing to produce the best results. I find this quite challenging in comparison as I can’t rely on audience energies, but the actor in me keeps the vibe alive! It may seem that I’m always high on life, living my best moment! Since one can’t rely on body language or impressive dressing alone, communication skills become all the more important. I constantly work at engaging the audience through the subtle play of tone & stress. Also, since every expression is clearly seen, I’m quite aware of every twitch, every smile to ensure it isn’t distracting to the speaker. It’s challenging, but nothing a bit of preparation and spontaneity can’t handle. :)

Communication, especially in today’s world, plays a significant role in a person’s growth, be it in any field. Fans are in awe of your impeccable communication skill, and that smile is the cherry on the cake! So, what are the few tips you would like to share with the audience to improve their communicative skills?

Thank you for the generous compliments! From a pageant stage to boardroom presentations, communication has truly become the key to success. I have a dedicated YouTube channel called SUPAbility by Supreet Bedi that shares tips & tricks on personality enhancement and communication skills. For our readers, I’d like to highlight the importance of structuring and articulating your thoughts and sharing them confidently. Read aloud for clarity, watch English films to increase familiarity, imitate authentic news readers, animate your words and attach the right tone. For, e.g., Loooooong drive! By stretching and stressing on the word ‘Long,’ you can elevate the effect. Confidence (in content and delivery), clarity (in thought and speech), and consistency would be my top elements!

Since 2015, you have worked with various beauty queens. Could you share your most memorable moment?

Each time a delegate returns with a title, it marks a memorable moment! Adline Castelino emerged third runner-up at the 69th edition of the Miss Universe pageant, Lopamudra Raut was crowned second runner-up at Miss United Continents 2016, Jitesh Thakur was India’s first representative at Mister Supranational pageant and became the 2nd runner-up…but the training that is etched in my heart forever is that of Rohit Khandelwal who bagged the proud title of Mr. World 2016! He was so dedicated in his ways, forever punctual, and took my feedback seriously. I would make him do silly dance moves to open up, practice the same paragraph for an hour and do bizarre vocal exercises to break the mold. Little did I know then that this hard-working lad who stood in front of me would eventually stand India proud to the commendable level that he did! That historic win still makes me smile!

Thank you, Supreet, for being an important part of the team and grooming all our winners with sheer perfection!
