Daily Covid cases drop by 21%, active cases reach 350 in Gujarat

Gujarat in 24 hours ending 5pm on Monday added 38 new Covid-19 positive cases, which were 21% fewer than 48 on Sunday. It’s after six days that the state has recorded below 40 daily cases. Active cases reached 350 with addition of one case as 37 patients were discharged.

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat in 24 hours ending 5pm on Monday added 38 new Covid-19 positive cases, which were 21% fewer than 48 on Sunday. It’s after six days that the state has recorded below 40 daily cases. Active cases reached 350 with addition of one case as 37 patients were discharged.
The new positive cases included 9 from Ahmedabad city, 8 from Vadodara city, 4 each from Navsari and Valsad, 3 from Surat city, and 1 each from Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Gandhinagar cities, Ahmedabad, Anand, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Mehsana, and Rajkot districts.
Cities accounted for 60% of daily cases. With 110 active cases, Ahmedabad has 31% of state’s total active cases.
The state in 24 hours vaccinated 3 lakh persons, taking the total to 8.31 crore. The state health department officials said that at 169 doses per 100 population, Gujarat’s vaccination rate is higher than several major countries such as France, USA and Germany.
Omicron variant: Genome results of more than 10 samples awaited
Health department officials said that the samples of the passengers who have tested positive upon arrival in the state and those who have come in contact with the confirmed cases are sent for genomic sequencing to ascertain whether they carry Omicron variant. In all, over 10 samples’ result is awaited. “The state has very low daily cases. Thus, all the samples are sent for genomic sequencing. The samples of those returning from abroad to be processed on priority so that the results could be obtained by up to third day,” said an official, adding that RT-PCR at the arrival is being followed according to Government of India’s SOP.
