Uttar Pradesh News, UP Election 2022 Highlights: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the BJP will win more than 325 seats if the saffron party strengthens itself at the booth level. “The medical college in Etah was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi a few days back. Under the leadership of our PM, we successfully fought with coronavirus. I want to know where were the Congress party, BSP and SP were when the state was suffering during Covid,” the CM said while addressing party workers at Etah.

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi took potshots at the Samajwadi Party while inaugurating the Saryu Nahar National Project, Akhilesh Yadav hit back swiftly, questioning the ruling BJP’s use of non-political platforms for campaign purposes.

“Has any political party used buses like this in the past? Have any District Collectors written letters asking for buses and people to be arranged like this… these are all political rallies that are happening. Has the BJP managed to hold any actual political rallies till now?” Yadav asked.

Yadav responded to PM Modi via a press conference in Lucknow, at which he jumped on the BJP’s catchphrase for this election — fark saaf hai (the difference is clear) — to hit back. “The BJP is about to complete five years in power… but they have not even had time to look at their ‘sankalp patra’ (manifesto). They are spending more in ads, banners, hoardings… They talk of employment and investment… how many MoUs have translated into something on ground,” he added.

PM Modi inaugurated the project in Balrampur on Saturday. Speaking about the recent chopper crash which killed CDS General Bipin Rawat and 12 others, Modi said, “India is in mourning but despite being in pain, neither do we stop our pace nor our development. India won’t stop. India won’t be at a standstill. Together, we Indians will work hard and face every challenge inside & outside the country.”

Two sitting MLAs join Samajwadi Party ahead of 2022 UP Assembly polls

Ahead of the crucial 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the Samajwadi Party got a shot in the arm on Sunday when two MLAs joined the party at its headquarters here in presence of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav.

The legislators are Vinay Shankar Tiwari from Chillupar assembly seat in Gorakhpur, who was expelled from the BSP recently, and Digvijay Narayan alias Jai Chaubey (BJP) from Khalilabad constituency in Sant Kabir Nagar.

Former chairman of the UP Legislative Council Ganesh Shankar Pandey, who was fielded by the BSP in 2010 for the post of council chairman, also joined the Samajwadi Party. Apart from these prominent leaders, a large number of Brahmins from different political parties also joined the party.

The BSP had on Monday expelled Tiwari, his elder brother and former MP Kushal Tiwari and their relative Pandey from the party. They were expelled for allegedly creating indiscipline in the party and for improper behaviour with senior leaders.

Hitting out at Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the SP chief said, "In the last four-and-half years (of the BJP rule), work has been done with discrimination. The way in which the British practised 'divide and rule', in the same way, the BJP wants to rule the people by making them feel afraid and killing them. In the upcoming polls, the people will teach a lesson to the BJP." (PTI)

Akhilesh claims Kashi Vishwanath Corridor project approved by his govt

A day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi was to inaugurate Kashi Vishwanath Corridor in Varanasi, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday claimed the project was approved during his term and there was documentary evidence of it.

He alleged that the BJP government has lined up a series of programmes to herald the start of the corridor only to deflect people's attention from PM's failure to double the income of farmers.

"All of you know who made the promise of doubling the income of the farmers. Today due to price rise fertilisers are not available, so how will the income of the farmers be doubled?

"Just so that public does not ask this question, they are bringing Kashi Vishvanath Corridor. And if there is any cabinet which passed the Kashi Vishvanath Corridor, it was Samajwadi Party's government's," Akhilesh told reporters here.

The corridor has been built as a mega project and is expected to boost tourism in the ancient city -- which is also the PM's Lok Sabha constituency. (PTI)

Alliance Talks: With OP Rajbhar in Oppn camp, BJP allies eye bigger seat share

With Om Prakash Rajbhar’s Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) having severed ties with the BJP, the Anupriya Patel-led Apna Dal (Sonelal) is now hoping to get more seats to contest in alliance with the saffron party in the 2022 Assembly elections. The Nishad Party, another BJP ally, that often flexes its muscles also wants to contest a “respectable number of seats”, according to a party functionary.

Among the seats that both the junior allies of the ruling party are eyeing are the eight in which the SBSP fielded candidates in the 2017 Assembly polls. In that election, the Apna Dal(S), which has influence among Kurmi voters, contested 11 seats and won nine while the SBSP, which has influence in the Rajbhar community, bagged four.

PM Modi exhorts farmers to consider natural farming

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday exhorted farmers to adopt natural farming saying it will help not only save water but also produce better crops, and invited them to join a mega programme on it on December 16 as it would prove beneficial to them.

He was addressing a rally in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh's Balrampur after inaugurating the Saryu Canal National Project, which will meet the irrigation needs of over 14 lakh hectares of land and benefit about 29 lakh farmers.

Modi said a big event on natural farming is being organised on December 16 and requested farmers across the country to connect with it either through TV or Krishi Vijyan Kendras.

Noting that Padma awardee Subhash Palekar of Maharashtra has initiated the idea of zero budget natural farming, Modi said it saves earth and water and the crop produced through it is also better. (PTI)

Painful to see that country's money was wasted: PM Modi

Speaking about the unnecessary delay in the Saryu Canal National Project earlier in the day, PM Modi said, "Most painful is the waste and misuse of the country's money, time and resources and its humiliation. This thinking is the biggest hurdle in the balanced development of the country and this thinking has also stalled the Saryu Nahar project."

All the citizens of the country should understand that when the work on this project was started its cost was under Rs 100 crore and now it is about Rs 10,000 crore. "This money was your hard-earned money," he told the gathering.

"Every single rupee of your hard-earned money should have been properly used in time. Those who didn't do this aren't they your 'gunehgar' (sinner)? Will you not punish them? The country has to pay 100 times more the price due to the laxity of previous governments," he said. (PTI)

HC quashes FIR against ‘Mirzapur’ web series producers

The Allahabad High Court on Friday quashed an FIR registered against the makers of web series Mirzapur for allegedly hurting religious feelings by misrepresenting the district as “an anti-social and criminal place”. On January 29, the court had stayed any coercive action against the show’s producers.

A Bench of Justices Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Subhash Vidyarthi on Friday passed a judgement saying no offence under IPC sections invoked against the producers was made out.

“…this Court is satisfied that there is no allegation to make out a case that the petitioners have, with a deliberate and malicious intention of outraging the religious feelings of any class of citizens of India, insulted or attempted to insult the regional or the religious beliefs of that class through the web series Mirzapur…” read the order. ‘Big gift to farmers’: PM to start Saryu canal project tomorrow in Uttar Pardesh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Rs 9,802 crore Saryu Canal National project in Balrampur district in eastern Uttar Pardesh on Saturday. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made the announcement on Thursday after inspecting the project in Shravasti and Bahraich districts, and said it was a “big gift to the farmers of eastern UP from the prime minister”.

“A grand programme has been organised in Balrampur on December 11 to express gratitude to the prime minister,” the chief minister told reporters.

Adityanath said the project would help around 30 lakh farmers irrigate 14.5 lakh hectares of land in nine districts in the region. The 6,623-km canal system that is linked to the 318-km main canal — it spans nine districts from Bahraich to Gorakhpur, and interconnects rivers such as Ghagra, Saryu, Rapti and Rohini — was extremely important for achieving the goal of doubling the income of farmers, he added.
