KOLAR: A group of Hindu locals from Hanumanapalya in Kolar’s Srinivasapur on Saturday allegedly burnt religious books which were reportedly being distributed by members of the Christian community.
Although the area was tense for some time, police said no complaint has been registered in connection with the incident.
Cops said four people arrived in the area in a van and allegedly began distributing Christian religious books.
Seeing this, Hindu community members raised objection, claiming attempts were being made to convert people by distributing the books. They snatched the books and set them on fire, police said.
However, those distributing the books said they do so during the Christmas season and it has nothing to do with conversion, as alleged by the locals. Police said a group of Christians had visited a house belonging to one Bebamma.
Police warned both groups and let them off.
This comes just a day after a man with a machete entered a Catholic church in Belagavi, triggering panic in the community. He allegedly threatened Fr Francis D’Souza, who was in charge of the church.
