Woman, two children found dead in well near Dindigul
DINDIGUL: A woman and her two children were found dead in a well at Ayyampalayam in Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu Saturday night.
The deceased have been identified as S Lakshmi, 22, her son Balasakthi, 4, and daughter Vismitha,2.
Lakshmi married Saravanan five years ago. Saravanan is a security guard in the coconut farm belonging to Somasundaram near the banks of the river Maruthanathi at Ayyampalayam.
The family lived in the farm.
Lakshmi’s mother Ramalakshmi told police that revealed that the 22-year-old had been mentally disturbed over the last few weeks. Ramalakshmi stayed with the daughter and took care of Lakshmi and the two grandchildren over the last two months.
On Saturday morning, Saravanan went out. On returning home in the evening, he found his mother-in-law asleep. His wife and children were missing. Ramalakshmi was unaware about whereabouts as she had slept after lunch. Saravanan and Ramalakshmi searched for his wife and children and finally found the bodies in a well in the farmland late at night.
The Pattiveeranpatti police conducted inquiries. The bodies were retrieved with the help of the and rescue services personnel from Batlagundu. The bodies were taken to the Dindigul Medical College Hospital, where postmortem was performed on Sunday.
It is suspected that Lakshmi could have thrown the children into the well before taking her life. A case was registered under section 174 (unnatural death) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Since the couple got married less than seven years ago, the case is probed by a revenue divisional officer, to check if dowry harassment could have instigated the young woman to take the extreme step. The police said that Lakshmi's family did not suspect any foul play in the deaths as they were aware of her mental illness and that she was under medication.
