VADODARA: Reports of violent incidents started trickling in from
Dahod as counting for the gram panchayat polls progressed on Tuesday. Defeated candidates proved to be sour losers in
Singvad taluka even as the police had to use force in
Limkheda to control unruly crowd.
Dahod district has had a history of poll-related violence, particularly during local body elections.
While most parts of the district did not witness any untoward incident, Singvad taluka was an exception where two incidents of violence took place in two different villages.
In Pisoi village of the Singvad taluka, supporters of a winning candidate were targeted by a mob of supporters of a defeated candidate. One person was injured on the head during stone pelting.
The second incident was reported in the Kesharpur village of the same taluka. Here supporters of a losing candidate went on a rampage and targeted the winner’s house. Vehicles parked near the house too were damaged by the mob.
In Limkheda, an unruly crowd that had gathered at the counting centre was trying to move towards the counting centre. The police had to use force to ensure that the crowd stayed outside the barricades erected at the counting centre.
