These are all the North East people who have been recognised in this year's New Year Honours List.

The 2022 list is once again celebrating the achievements of those who have gone the extra mile to support others in the community or shown dedication in their field of work.

A string of honours have been handed out and here we have listed the recipients in Tyne and Wear, County Durham and Northumberland, alongside details of their awards.

They include bestselling Vera author Ann Cleeves, of Whitley Bay, who is receiving an OBE for services to reading and libraries.

Former Sunderland footballer Gary Bennett, a patron for Show Racism The Red Card, is being awarded an MBE for services to anti-racism in football.

And Durham-born TV and radio presenter Matt Baker has also been named in the official list following his charitable contributions to fundraising causes.
