9 out of 11 Vid districts report Covid-19 cases, spike continues
Nagpur: After reporting 100+ new cases on Friday, the 11 districts in Vidarbha region reported 84 new cases on Saturday which indicated that the previous day’s sudden spike was not a fluke.
The surge is going to stay and likely to see many more cases in the next two weeks as estimated by the health department. On Saturday, nine out of 11 districts in Vidarbha, barring Bhandara in Nagpur division and Washim in Amravati division, reported Covid-19 cases.
As cases are coming from all corners of the region, this could be early symptoms of the new wave.
Municipal corporation cities are dominating while rural areas are reporting fewer cases. Out of Saturday’s 84 cases, 74 came from Nagpur (54), Amravati (16) and Chandrapur (4) – all municipal corporation cities.
Overall, 10,224 tests were conducted in the region. With 84 of them positive, the test positivity rate is 0.85% which is once again nearing the 1% mark. If TPR is more than 1% for three days in a row, stricter restrictions will be applied in the region.
The number of under-treatment patients in the region reached 456 on Saturday. Last time, more than 456 patients were under-treatment only in September. However, majority of the patients in this phase are either asymptomatic or showing very mild to mild symptoms.
A death of a Chandrapur-based man, who died in Nagpur on December 29, was finally reflected in the Covid-19 online portal and Nagpur district authorities counted the deceased person in its ‘deaths from other districts’ section. However, the same death was counted in Chandrapur district’s tally too. This administrative goof-up is showing 2 deaths in a day on January 1 in Vidarbha in the official tally. However, only 1 death has happened.
