Two sons of Popular Builders’ promoter caught drunk
Palanpur: The controversial Ahmedabad-based firm Popular Builders is in the news yet again for wrong reasons. This time, two sons and a daughter-in-law of the promoter Raman Patel, were caught in a heavily inebriated condition at two separate places in Aravalli and Mehsana on Saturday night, said police officers.
While Priyesh Patel and his wife Komal were arrested by Shamlaji police near Ansol check post of Modasa in Arvalli, his younger brother Monang was caught drunk near Nandasan crossroads in Mehsana along with three others.

Monang Patel is accused of attempt to murder and harassment along with his father in a case filed by his wife in Vastrapur police in August 2020.
According to an FIR filed by Shamlaji police, the cops were deployed at a check post when they spotted a car being driven rashly. They stopped the car and found that a couple —Priyesh and Komal - inside. Both were stinking of liquor. The police team told Komal to undergo a breathalyzer test and insert the nozzle in her mouth and blow air in it. But she refused to undergo the test citing the Covid-19 pandemic. Her husband Priyesh too gave the same reason to evade the test.
Meanwhile, the cops called two punch witnesses, who smelt their mouth and confirmed that they were drunk. “Their eyes were red due to inebriated condition and their speech was also slurred,” the FIR states.
Shamlaji police booked Priyesh for drunken driving and Komal for consuming liquor.
On the other hand, Monang was caught heavily drunk with three others in a car near Nandsan crossroads by a police team of Mehsana deployed there to check drunken driving cases.

According to an FIR filed with Mehsana police, Monang was also unable to speak and failed a field sobriety test after which he was booked by police under prohibition charges.
His two other friends named Vishwanath Raval from Vejalpur and Nikunj Patel from Ranip were also found drunk.
The Popular Builders faced the first legal trouble in August last year after Monang’s wife alleged sexual torture and attempt to murder against him and Raman Patel. Later, they were charged with around six cases of cheating and land grabbing by city police.
Monang was released on bail from the Gujarat high court in January, but Raman is still behind bars.
