Over 100 cases for 2nd time in 3 days, fully vaccinated man dies in Gondia
Nagpur: For the second time in the last three days and for the first time in the New Year, the 11 districts of Vidarbha reported a spike of 100+ new cases of Covid-19 in 24 hours. Nagpur accounted for highest 90 cases while all other districts, except Washim, reported cases on Sunday. A fully vaccinated person from Gondia having severe comorbidities died during treatment.

The region has reported 218 new cases in the first two days of 2022 and three deaths due to Covid-19 as per official data. Against it, only 15 patients have recovered in the last two days. This has increased the number of under-treatment patients to 578, which is for the first time more than 500 patients are under treatment in the last three months.
Majority of these patients are either asymptomatic or having very mild symptoms. Many of them are recovering fast, as per officials. Even patients detected with Omicron variant have recovered and got discharged.
Overall, 10,658 tests were conducted in the region in the last 24 hours. With 134 of them returning positive, the test positivity rate was 1.25% on Sunday, which is highest in the last many months. TPR above 1% is considered as ‘Yellow Alert’. The state government has already imposed restrictions needed for this alert.
Of the 578 under-treatment patients in Vidarbha, Nagpur district accounts for 406, including 355 from city (NMC area). More than 5,000 tests were conducted in Nagpur district in the last 24 hours.
Gondia: A sudden spike of nine new cases and a death of fully vaccinated Covid-19 patient raised concern in Gondia on Sunday. Authorities said that the man was a patient of chronic kidney disorder, diabetes and TB and his condition was critical. Now, the district has 23 patients under treatment, including 19 in home isolation.

Bhandara: The district reported four new cases after 268 tests, taking the caseload to 60,115. Now, six patients are under treatment.
Gadchiroli: With two new cases and two recoveries, the district’s caseload is 30,849, including 30,093 recoveries. There are eight patients under treatment.
Akola: Only one out of 502 tests conducted in the last 24 hours came positive. With no recovery reported, the district has 13 patients under treatment.
Buldhana: There were six new cases after 438 tests conducted in last 24 hours while only one patient recovered. Now, Buldhana’s caseload is 87,684, including 86,987 recoveries, 676 deaths and 21 active cases.
Washim: The district was the only one in the region which did not report any new case of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. With no change in number of cases and recoveries, three patients remain under treatment.
Wardha: The district witnessed four new cases in a single day from 370 test reports on Sunday. The total cases are now 49,451. After one discharge, the total recoveries increased to 48,111, leaving 10 active positive under treatment. As there were no casualties, the toll remained unchanged at 1,327.
Amravati: Ten new cases from the 850 samples tested took the district's caseload to 96,272 on Sunday. Of the ten cases, one each is from Warud, Chandur Bazar and Dhamangaon Railway while the rest are from the city. With these cases, the number of active cases under treatment has gone up to 60. There has been no death nor recovery on Sunday.
Yavatmal: There has been a sudden surge in Covid cases with 6 new positive patients reported during the last 24 hours despite the toll remaining unchanged at 1,788. Currently, there are 15 active positive patients under treatment. The administration received 868 reports of which two each are from the city and Babhulgaon and one from Pandharkawda tehsil and the other one is from outside the district. The 6 positive patients include three men and 3 women. Of the 72,989 positive patients, 71,186 have recovered. The administration has so far tested 7,86,382 swab samples of which 7,13,296 were found negative. The test positivity rate is 9.28%, death rate 2.45% and daily positivity rate 0.69%.
The district has 1,768 beds for Covid patients.
Chandrapur: Two patients were found positive out of 508 tests conducted during the last 24 hours. A patient each was detected at Ballarpur and Korpana. There was a solitary recovery reported on Sunday. The day remained casualty free. The caseload has risen to 88,894, which includes 87,337 recoveries and 1,544 deaths. A total of 8,00,217 samples have been tested so far. Out of these, 7,10,184 have been found negative.
