(KTLA/WFXR) — Two winning tickets hit all six numbers in Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot to split an approximately $632.6 million prize — the seventh-largest in the game’s history. However, two tickets sold in Virginia’s New River Valley also managed to win $50,000 prizes Wednesday night.

The winning numbers for the drawing on Wednesday, Jan. 5 were 6, 14, 25, 33, 46, and the Powerball 17.

One of the lucky tickets was purchased in Sacramento, Calif., at a 7-Eleven, according to the California Lottery. The other was sold in Wisconsin.

“The lucky ticket holders will split the $632.6 million jackpot. Each ticket is worth an annuitized $316.3 million or $225.1 million cash,” a Powerball news release stated. “Both prize options are prior to taxes.

Each retailer that sold the tickets will also receive a $1 million bonus.

The game’s largest jackpot is still the $1.586 billion prize won on Jan. 13, 2016, which remains the largest in U.S. lottery history. Three winning tickets hit all six numbers for the massive prize, including one that was purchased in California — also at a 7-Eleven.

Meanwhile, in Virginia, during the 40 jackpot drawings between October 2021 and Wednesday, Powerball ticket sales generated more than $18 million, which will go to K-12 public education in the Commonwealth.

In Wednesday night’s drawing, the Virginia Lottery says that more than 68,000 Powerball tickets bought in the Commonwealth won prizes. That includes five tickets that each won $50,000 by matching four of the first five numbers and the Powerball number. Those five winning tickets were bought in the following locations:

  • Kroger at 555 N. Franklin Street in Christiansburg
  • Royal at 895 East Market Street in Harrisonburg
  • Buckos Pantry at 7554 Peppers Ferry Boulevard in Radford
  • Food Lion at 36127 Godwin Drive in Locust Grove
  • 7-Eleven at 6147 Franconia Road in Alexandria

Of the more than 68,000 winning tickets bought in Virginia for Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing, officials say nearly 11,000 were bought online.

According to the Virginia Lottery, the odds of winning Powerball’s $50,000 prize are one in 913,129 while the odds of matching all six numbers to win the jackpot are one in 292,201,338.

Powerball is played in 45 states, plus Washington, D.C.; Puerto Rico; and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are held at 10:59 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
