UP: Covid numbers soar, 368 patients now in hospitals

A total 4,228 more cases were recorded in the state on Friday, taking the active cases to 12,327. Of these, 11,959 are under home isolation while the remaining 368 patients have been hospitalised. The number of patients in the hospital increased three times from Thursday when 125 patients were in hospital.

LUCKNOW: About 3% of the active Covid-19 cases in the state have been hospitalized in the current surge, as per the official data released on Friday.
A total 4,228 more cases were recorded in the state on Friday, taking the active cases to 12,327. Of these, 11,959 are under home isolation while the remaining 368 patients have been hospitalised. The number of patients in the hospital increased three times from Thursday when 125 patients were in hospital.
Additional chief secretary, health and family welfare, Amit Mohan Prasad said UP’s daily positivity rate is rising constantly.
While the 7-day average has been 1.04%, the daily positivity rate on Friday was 1.9%.
The state also recorded one Covid-19 death.
On Friday, eight districts recorded more than 100 cases with Gautam Budh Nagar accounting for the maximum 721 cases. It was followed by Ghaziabad (607), Lucknow (577), Meerut (411), Varanasi (224), Agra (69) Moradabad (157) and Prayagraj (104).
As per the health bulletin, Gautam Budh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Lucknow and Meerut have more than 1,000 active cases and together account for 57.6% of the total active cases in the state. Also, 19 districts have more than 100 active cases now.

The pace of recovery is much slower. Just 119 persons became free of the coronavirus.
Prasad urged people to stay cautious but not to panic. “Prevention is must as the case positivity rate is increasing faster. But panic will not help. People need to be mindful of their actions in individual and social interest,” he said.
Prasad told TOI that the total number of doses administered in UP reached 21.04 crore with 16.9 lakh jabs on Friday. The CoWin portal showed that in terms of people, 13.27 crore are partially vaccinated while 7.76 crore are fully vaccinated.
