HYDERABAD: A 26-year-old woman, who was into her ninth month of pregnancy and expecting her second child, ended her life in Mancherial as she did not want a baby girl.
A post-mortem conducted by doctors revealed that Yeggana Ramya was actually carrying a baby boy. Her expected delivery date was January 6. Ramya of NTR Nagar colony in Mancherial town had a three-year-old daughter.
The incident has gone viral on social media platforms.
“For the last few days, she was reportedly telling her parents, husband and inlaws that she did not want another baby girl,” police said. Sub-inspector D Kiran Kumar told STOI on Saturday that enquiries with the family had revealed that Ramya herself had been expressing fears of giving birth to another baby girl.
The family reportedly told her that she should not worry as another baby girl should be welcomed. Ramya, who was a BEd graduate, was apparently upset to give birth to a baby girl. Kiran said they have not registered a case against anyone since the parents too claimed that their daughter had been nursing fears for no reason.
