Imphal, January 09 2022:
Manipur People's Democratic Front (MPDF) has appealed to the State Government to call a meeting of all political parties in the State to discuss the petition filed in Supreme Court by West Bengal based political party 'Amra Bengali' opposing the Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) with the claim that ILPS is in direct violation of 'Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation Act, 1873'.Further, MPDF urged the State Govt to consult with opposition parties to give a befitting reply to the petition and ensure that SC rules in favour of the State.
MPDF also questioned why Amra Bengali had filed this petition specifically with regards to ILPS implementation in Manipur which happened not too long ago on December 11, 2019, when the same ILP system is currently effective in Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Nagaland and Lakshadweep and urged the political leaders to take this point into account.
The organisation further added that simply yelling slogans about the issue will not bring any resolution.
The matter must be immediately attended to through a detailed discussion between the various political parties, MPDF added.
