BENGALURU: Noted Kannada writer and poet, Professor
Chandrashekar Patil (83), passed away following age-related health issues in Bengaluru on Monday morning.
Patil was also known as '
Champa'.
Champa hailed from village Hattimuttur in Haveri.
He had played a vital role in pro Kannada protests, including the famous Gokak protest in 1980s where a successful fight was put in getting first language status for Kannada.
Champa was the president of Kannada Development Board and Kannada Sahitya Parishat.
According to family sources, the last rites will be performed in Bengaluru on Monday evening.
