VADODARA/ ANAND: A ‘dayro’ programme of Gujarat’s popular folk singer Kirtidan Gadhvi has come under scanner for allegedly flouting Covid-19 guidelines at a time when Anand district has emerged as a Covid-19 hotspot in Gujarat.
After controversy hit the programme, Anand police on Monday decided to register an offence. The night ‘dayro’ programme on Sunday was organized at Kalamsar village of Khambhat taluka.

Politicians across parties were present in the programme which had hundreds in audience without wearing masks or following social distancing norms.
Those present included minister Arjunsinh Chauhan, BJP MLA Mayur Raval, Anand district Congress president Mahendrasinh Parmar apart from other leaders. Raval along with others are seen showering currency notes on the singer without wearing mask on the stage.
The singer himself landed in controversy for his alleged remark from the stage asking the gathering to remove mask from their faces.
Reacting to the controversy, Kirtidan Gadhvi told TOI that the remark is being highlighted out of context. “If you hear to the entire clip, you will understand that I asked the gathering to loudly chant Har Har Mahadev with me. It was for this moment that I asked them to remove the mask and later wear it again,” he said.

Gadhvi’s associates told TOI that the singer had given the call for the customary chant – ‘Har Har Mahadev’ hailing Lord Shiva while raising hands up in the air.
Anand district superintendent of police Ajit Rajian said that the police has registered an offence against the organisers for not following Covid-19 appropriate behaviour like wearing mask and maintaining social distance norms.
Even as questions regarding the timings were also being raised, officials said that since the notification regarding curfew s restricted to Anand city, the night curfew timings were not valid in this case as a programme was organized under the jurisdiction of Khambhat rural.
