Varanasi: With the rising cases of coronavirus infection, the number of Covid-19 active cases crossed the mark of 3,000 in Varanasi district on Thursday.
According to the daily medical bulletin, 515 people tested positive for Covid-19, increasing the number of active cases to 3,048 in the district on Thursday while 25 patients in home isolation were declared cured.
The test results of 5,557 were received, while 6,150 samples were collected on Thursday.
In Chandauli district, 75 persons including 20 women and four boys tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday, increasing the tally of active cases to 307. Only one patient was declared cured in the district, where 2,330 samples were collected on Thursday.
Jaunpur district reported 48 new cases of Covid-19, increasing the number of active cases to 193, while Ballia district reported 49 new cases of coronavirus infection, increasing the number of active cases to 136 on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Varanasi district magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma issued a strict warning to the academic institutions against the laxity in the vaccination drive for the children in 15-18-year age group. Actions like suspension, FIR lodging, salary blocking could be taken against school heads if 100% vaccination is not done in the next two days, said the DM.
The DM reviewed the progress of the vaccination drive on Thursday. He said that the health department teams will start visiting all the schools from Friday for vaccination.
The additional chief secretary Deepak Kumar also made surprise inspections of the hospitals to take first hand account of the vaccination drive and available facilities.
