KFC has announced it wants to open up to 500 new restaurants across the country - including 17 in the North East.
The fast food giant has released plans to add to the 900-strong sites it already owns, by opening more drive-thrus and stores.
According to KFC's official website, drive-thrus are the most popular assets to the company and only require 0.3 acres to fit into vacant sites, with existing building conversions also considered.

Restaurant options are also being considered where drive-thrus cannot be accommodated, while "small boxes" can fit "into 1,000 sqft with a unique design while still offering customers a great experience".
KFC also invited developers to get in touch if they have a space that could be of interest, and says the company will pay £20,000 “for all recognised introductions”, reports The Mirror.
Among the locations being looked at in the North East are the A1 at Morpeth, St James' Park in Newcastle, Durham University, Gateshead Metrocentre as well as drive thrus in Whitley Bay and at the Silverlink retail park in North Tyneside.
